January 2020

The new smart board has been installed, and now the new shelves are finally up.

Now, locating and gaining access to an important portion of our library’s informational texts shall be much easier for students and patrons.

All that’s left to do is sand and stain the wood so that books about Holidays and Folklore can start flying off the shelves!

October 2019

October 8th was Wyoming Library Snapshot Day.

Crest Hill students in 4th and 5th grades participated by working in teams and taking their own photographs to show how they use their library.

View their pictures on the link below, through Wyoming State Library “flickr” page: flickr.com-wyomingsnapshot

Thanks to all students, staff, and community members for making it such a great school year at Crest Hill Elementary.

For some, this was their last year here; for others, their first year here. Next year promises fantastic opportunities for all.

Special appreciation to Mrs. Rapp. Thank you and good luck!

December 2018

The past few weeks have been busy in the library!

Primary grades have been working to identify all the Parts of a Book. Second graders have been using MakerSpace materials to create Jackdaws for retelling fables.
Third, Fourth, and Fifth grade students have been investigating the Library’s OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue), working toward being able to see what books are available and where they are located with just a few clicks of the keyboard.

Most classes had the chance to help celebrate National Computer Science Education week. Students explored “coding” both on computers and with the library’s new pair of code-a-pillars.

Lastly, MakerSpace Club came to semester’s end with everyone finishing up their final projects, giving presentations, and enjoying a pumpkin muffin or two.

Thanks to everyone fore supporting Crest Hill’s Library!

October 2018

Name our Dragon!

     1. Think up a name.

     2. Write it down on a slip of paper.

     3. Drop the paper into the pail by the library.

Or leave a comment on this post!

The most popular names will be tallied, and we will have a final school vote on Election Day, Tuesday, November 6th.

May 2018

It has been a busy month in the library!

Each Kindergarten group made its own class book based on Dr. Seuss’s ABC. (Kindergartners also presented their humble librarian with a “Thank You Book,” each pupil writing and drawing a page about what they liked about their library.)

First grade spent much of the month engaged in a series of MakerSpace activities.

Second grade practiced finding “Right Fit” books. Students also compared and contrasted various versions of “Hansel & Gretel” from around the world.

Fourth Grade held a successful Poetry Slam in conjunction with the Writing Center. (Thanks Mrs. Lancaster!)

Fifth grade worked to finish their book trailers based on “Chains,” “Wonder,” or “The Veldt.”

Third grade, though, has been busiest of all this month. Students turned the amphitheatre into a living history museum, showcasing aspects of pioneer life for their study of Natrona County History. They also worked in teams to build simple machines, many of which still decorate the library shelves. Also on display are third graders’ “Ingredients of a Mystery” projects. Every student read a mystery and then designed a cereal box–complete with “ingredients” or literary components, graphics, and activities–based on the book!

The end of the year is quickly approaching; still, students are staying busy learning in the library!
